Malta

Malta is a small and densely populated island nation in Southern Europe that lies south of Sicily, east of Tunisia and north of Libya. Malta has been a member state of the European Union (EU) since 2004 and it is currently the smallest EU country both in population and in area. The climate is Mediterranean temperate climate with mild, rainy winters and hot, dry summers. In fact there are only two seasons, which makes the islands attractive for tourists especially during the drier months.

The national language of Malta is Maltese which are mostly borrowed from Italian and Sicilian language, although English is also used as its official language.

Education System:

Education in Malta is based on the British Model. Education at diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate level is mainly provided by the University of Malta (UoM). The UoM offers different courses and also gives the option of entering normal full or part time courses as a mature student. Admission in the university requires a minimum overall C grade in the Matriculation Certificate and passes at ordinary level of the core subjects. Here the Matriculation Certificate is a certificate granted to post secondary students in Malta, who successfully pass two advanced level equivalents to the British Advanced Level examinations and three intermediate advanced subsidiary examinations. Students who obtain grade ‘C’ or better in their two A Level subjects can proceed to enter into the UoM. Subjects are divided into 4 groups, where each group represents Languages, Humanities, Sciences and Practical/ Technical subjects.
